About Me

I qualified as a STGA guide in 2002. It is a wonderful job! It lets me meet interesting people from all over the world and while I hope they can benefit from my knowledge of Scotland I certainly enjoy the opportunity of learning from them and also for constantly deepening my knowledge of my homeland

I enjoy working with both English and French-speaking guests. I have a degree in French from St Andrews University where I also studied Scottish literature and history. I was fortunate to spend a lot of time living and working in France both as a student and after my degree. and I visit friends there every year.

As a Guide, my principal interests are ones that are passions of my own, music and gardens. A trained singer, I had the privilege of being part of both the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus and the Edinburgh International Festival Chorus and I was also administrator of the Friends of the Edinburgh Quartet for a number of years. My musical plans include exploring more of my Celtic heritage [I had a Highland granny!] and learning more about Gaelic song.

I love gardening, both getting my hands dirty and admiring beautiful gardens and I enjoy showing our visitors round the extraordinary variety of gardens in Scotland and throughout Britain. My love of the countryside and natural world of Scotland has added to the experience of taking farming tours round Scotland.

Cruise ship work gives me the chance to show visitors the many fascinating places in and near Edinburgh, where I live as well as the amazing history of Skye and the Hebrides, the Orkney Islands and Northumberland.
