About Me

Hello, Let me introduce myself, I am Helen Houston and I would love to show you round my beautiful country and help you to enjoy your stay to the full. I am a 'daughter of the rock' which means I was born in Stirling and grew up there Stirling is just steeped in Scottish history, my history teacher at school was absolutely fantastic and imparted her love of the country and it\'s history to me. My father also had a fund of stories about Scotland which would fascinate my sisters and myself as we were growing up and now I am delighted to be able to weave some of these tales into my tours. I qualified as a Blue Badge Scottish Tourist Guide in 2008 after a career working in Human Resource Management within the public sector and then as a lecturer and manager within Further Education. Becoming a Tourist Guide has realised all my ambition of a further career working with and meeting fascinating people, I love this new career. If I were fortunate enough to be your guide while you were in Scotland I would be delighted to take you to the places you have read about and hoped to see, I would ensure that your eyes were really opened to the interesting and unique culture that is Scotland. My interests are wide and outside of guiding I enjoy creating 'memories' for my seven grandchildren by taking them to exciting places of interest on day trips or on camping trips. I also enjoy reading and some simple craft work. Learning more, about my country and about other countries from the people I meet, is very satisfying and is never ending. Long may it continue. I look forward to meeting you and making your time in Scotland fulfilling and fun. During lockdown I have teamed up with fellow Blue Badge Guides, Liz Lister and Susan Brown to form Scottish Blethers. We podcast every week on Scotland related topics. Why not look out for our Scottish Blethers Podcast on your favourite podcast platform. This has been great fun for me, keeping me up to date and slowly - very slowly - developing my social media skills! Again you can find Scottish Blethers on Facebook at www.facebook.com/scottishblethers
