I qualifified as a Blue Badge Guide in 2004 after a career as a civil engineer working for major construction companies all round the UK but mostly in Scotland. For the last 20 years I served as director/managing director on Regional and National Boards. Since my early retirement I have been a Governor at a Glasgow University and Chairman of a major Youth Clubs Association. Although much of my tourist guide work has been as a driver-guide taking small groups of 4 to 6 people for up to 2 weeks around Scotland, I have also done my fair share of one day tours in the major cities and for cruise ships coming into Greenock, Rosyth, South Queensferry and Leith.

One of the highlights of my career to date was to take part, as a guide, in the BBC programme "Britain's Best Drives" with Richard Wilson, the famously grumpy British actor, (see picture below --I am the one on the left.

Here's what my clients have said about me--

“Hugh, you made our travel in bonny Scotland such a wonderful experience. We are grateful for your knowledge and most of all, your delightful sense of humour. We learned so such about Scotland that we would have missed without you”
Nancy and Tom – Georgia

“I long for the twinkle in the eye of a great Scot who made our trip “spot-on”. Many thanks to you”
Jan – Canada
