Born in Glasgow I studied French at university in my native city. As part of my degree, I spent a year as a teaching assistant in a school in the South of France. On leaving university I began my career in tourism, working abroad for a Danish company in Portugal, Turkey and the former Yugoslavia, but primarily in Spain and its islands. Here, with a little knowledge of Italian and lots of French, I learned Spanish. However, the pull of the "tartan garter" saw me return to Scotland, firstly to work in the backroom of a local Tour Operator and I have now been a Member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association for 20 years which allows me to show off my own beloved country.
