Although born and brought up in Glasgow, I have lived in Edinburgh for the last 25 years. As a qualified Chartered Accountant, my varied career took me to Hong Kong, Singapore and London. More recently, I worked for seven years as Chief Executive of a significant Scottish charity, during which time I made regular speaking tours of the United States. I have always had a passionate interest in Scottish history, literature and culture - I studied Scottish History while at Glasgow University - and now, as a Blue Badge guide, it is my pleasure and delight to share this passion with visitors to our beautiful country.
As an enthusiast for Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns, I offer specialist Burns tours; and I am in demand each year to speak and perform at Burns Suppers in Glasgow and Edinburgh. I am also a great admirer of the poetry and novels of Sir Walter Scott, and offer specialist Scott tours.
More widely, my passions cover anything to do with Scottish history. I am an elder in the Church of Scotland, and often take themed tours on Scottish church history. Whisky tours are always popular, of course!
Much of my work is with smaller parties of up to 8 people as a driver-guide, where I enjoy helping clients put together itineraries that meet their particular wishes. However, I frequently work with large groups as well, and a number of tour operators are regular clients. I am happy to take anything from half-day city walking tours to extended tours of up to two weeks.
From 2015 - 2018 I was Chairman of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association.
