About Me

I am privileged to have lived and worked in the Highlands over 20 years. Currently the proud holder of both the STGA Green Badge and a Certificate of Higher Education in Tourist Guiding and studying towards my BA in culture and history.

Over the years I have extensively explored the area which has resulted in great enthusiasm for its industrial heritage, culture and history. From ancient ironworks, major battles, social upheaval, imposing forts and castles to nationally significant transport and infrastructure projects, the Highlands has them all. I would be delighted to share some of my experiences to make your tour a memorable one.

The Highlands are bursting with sometimes hidden, occasionally not so hidden, human stories and diverse legacies. The destruction of the Clan system or the Jacobite rebellions to name but two. It boasts an unrivalled pedigree from the earliest periods of ancient history to the present day.

Let me guide you back to the 1950’s. A radical idea is conceived to harvest hydro electricity from the wettest, remotest, and most logistically inaccessible terrain imaginable !
Using ingenuity, resourcefulness and bulldog determination, plans to build the many dams, tunnels and cavernous generating stations are devised and constructed, turning the region into a gigantic powerhouse of renewable energy, still operational today and even more relevant, 70 years later !

If you are still reading this, we think alike and I would love to share my enthusiasm with you………
