When I first came to Shetland in 2003 I had no idea that I would fall in love with these remote islands and end up showing visitors around. It sounded preposterous - yet it's exactly what happened. I qualified as a tour guide in 2004 and have since guided for cruise liners, coach tour companies and individuals. I have also worked as a museum guide in the award winning Shetland Museum and Archives. I have learnt from the best, Shetlanders and incomers alike. I can still remember what it was that I found curious and unexpected when I first came here, things that people born and bred on the isles would possibly take for granted. Even now, I'm still amazed by Shetland's stunning, raw landscapes, huge sky, lovely and homely dialect, the sounds and scents, even the gales and fresh, cool air. Every day I'm grateful for the opportunity to live and work in this unique place.
