About Me

I live and work in Orkney. My wife and I operate a guest house offering a base for general holidays but also structured art, drama and photography activities. I am a qualified teacher and college lecturer and my work sees me travelling regularly to the outer islands of Orkney.

I find Orkney fascinating. The landscape and the weather can be both beautiful and challenging and I have never known a place where so much history is packed into such a relatively small area. These islands boast some of the finest Neolithic remains in Europe. But the story doesn't end there. The Vikings, The Stewart earls and many others have left their mark here and there are many sites to be explored relating to both world wars. Aside from all of the history and archaeology, these islands and their waters are rich in wildlife and the whole of Orkney is underpinned by a strong community who have, over the years, developed and enjoyed a unique way of life. It is always a pleasure to share this wonderful place with others.
