Born and raised in Scotland, my first taste of tour guiding was in fact during a summer spent as a bike and segway guide on the busy streets of Paris. That was ten years ago now, and the guiding "bug" never really left me.
I've since been a financial technical writer, an events executive for the tourist board, and an events planner for Destination Management Companies, designing itineraries and events around Scotland for corporate groups. But my favourite thing is to showcase my beautiful country first hand, while meeting interesting people from around the world.
I live in Edinburgh, and studied in Glasgow, so I know both cities well. However I am a country girl at heart, growing up beside the sea in the small village of Aberdour, in the Kingdom of Fife. I also have family on the Isle of Skye, so am always delighted to showcase that dramatic part of Scotland to new faces.
I love telling stories and visiting the main sights of Scotland. But I think it's important to showcase some hidden gems, and the local favourites too! I have experience of guiding extended tours, where I was also a tour manager. I also do plenty of shore excursions, step on guiding, and day tours. I've worked with school groups, translators, and on corporate events. I also enjoy providing private tours to families and couples.
I'm an Outlander fan and enjoy linking in history and film locations where possible. Similarly, I studied Scottish Literature as part of my degree, so am happy to tailor tours with a focus on that.
Testimonials
From an extended tour around Scotland, including a visit to the islands of Mull and Iona:
"Thank you for your care and guidance of the wandering Pomegranates (group name). We appreciate your patience and calm as we were too busy looking at the sites to pay attention to your directions (sometimes). We have made many memories in Scotland, and you will be fondly remembered as one of the best!"
From a 3 day tour including Glasgow, Loch Ness and St Andrews:
"Oh Clare, we marvel at the knowledge you have of your country's history. Your commentary added so much to our enjoyment"
