About Me

Welcome!

I grew up on the shores of Loch Rannoch, tucked in the north of Highland Perthshire, and it instilled in me a love of Scotland's landscape and wildlife. After graduating from Scotland's oldest university (St Andrews, MA Archaeology), I worked as a traditional musician. Performing in pubs, at ceilidhs and folk festivals, playing banjo, mandolin, bouzouki & singing Gàidhlig songs.

This eventually took me to Orkney, where I made my home guiding visitors round Skara Brae and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. Island life is something special. From there, I began working with cruise ships, designing and coordinating shore excursions. But the guiding bug was too strong, so I took the Blue Badge exams and now I am here to show you my Scotland!

As one of the country's youngest Blue Badge guides, I am very concerned about eco-friendly tourism and sustainability. I have a luxury all-electric vehicle (Mercedes-Benz EQV) to take you to Scotland's most hidden corners in comfort, quiet and without leaving diesel particulate in our wake. If you want to take a deep dive into the country, "slow" tourism in Scotland has so much to offer you and gives you the opportunity to give something back to the communities we visit.

Join me and we can explore each nook & cranny, savour every taste, marvel every vista! And maybe we can even play a few tunes along the way.

Testimonials:

Fergus sees his job as more enlightenment than entertainment.  Some guides seem to have memorized scripts with appropriate jokes.  Fergus was much more spontaneous in his observations, and he was very responsive to our questions.

Fergus is clever and funny, but it is reactive humor rather than a practiced humor. He fit in well with our group because both of our daughters and their spouses are clever and funny.  His humor fit well with ours.

Fergus' knowledge is both wide and deep. As would be expected, he knows history, geography, and even some geology.  He also has a deep knowledge of music, culture, politics, and the Gaelic language.  These are areas of interest for my family.

Fergus took wonderful care of our clients and they said he was charismatic and engaging!

Fergus is quite simply everything you would want from a guide and frankly a person. He is passionate about what he does, knows SO MUCH about the history of Scotland and details others don't, as well as extremely organized and pays attention to details - details we even forgot we mentioned ;) While he stuck to the original plan, the little things he did on the fly for our kids and us really touched our hearts and we consider him a family friend at this point.
