About Me

I am a proud member the Scottish Tourist Guides Association and holder of the Green Badge qualification. This is an accredited and internationally recognised regional qualification, gained through study at the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The Highlands and Islands of Scotland are characterised by dramatic, ever-changing scenery. This enchanting part of the world is also home to dynamic and creative communities.

Born in Ayrshire in the Scottish Lowlands, I have lived in the Highlands for many years, working in radio and print journalism and covering a wide range of topics. Travel writing has given me the opportunity to explore distant locations. However, my favourite adventures have taken place at home in Scotland where I have stayed in luxurious castles and explored remote and spectacular places on foot, by water and on horseback.

There is considerable common ground between my two careers. A good piece of writing fulfils an editorial remit. An excellent tour, meanwhile, is founded on thorough research and tailored to the needs of guests, so that commentary unfolds like a compelling story, bringing to life key themes and lesser known stories. Be my guest and together we will discover people and places beyond anything to be found in a guide book.
