About Me

Welcome! Bienvenue! Willkommen!

I would be delighted to be your guide in Scotland, and bring this wonderful country alive for you. I am based in the inspiring city of Edinburgh and I love the outdoors and guiding through the beautiful Scottish countryside. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and the knowledge built up over 40 years with visitors from throughout the world. Each tour is informative, tailor-made, enjoyable and hopefully fun! I guide groups from across Europe and from all over the world, including many groups of French schoolchildren and German students. Many of my tours are of Edinburgh, by coach or walking or by chauffeur car. Popular day tours from Edinburgh include St Andrews, the Border abbeys and houses, Stirling, and Glasgow.

I have been privileged to guide throughout Scotland on the Belmond Royal Scotsman train for 25 years, and for other trains in the Orient Express group. I have been fortunate to guide aboard the small luxury cruise ship, the Hebridean Princess, around the beautiful islands of Scotland for 20 years.

I am to give a warm welcome to visitors anywhere in Scotland, and to tailor my tours to their own special interests.

Testimonials - September 2019 "I should also mention Marilyn our tour guide. An endlessly interesting companion with seemingly unlimited knowledge, energy and patience. I particularly appreciated her help in navigating the somewhat baffling Protestant/Catholic/Presbyterian division across the Hebrides. She was most definitely a key contribution to our enjoyment of the cruise."

August 2021 "Marilyn was charming and consistently smartly presented. She was knowledgeable and my conversation with her left me feeling special. Her commentary gave information in a story telling manner which captured the coach's audience in full. Her wealth of knowledge and her approach demonstrated pride and enthusiasm. She shared personal anecdotes as well as fables and tales about the Highlands which only worked to provide a sense of discovery. Her manner was constantly bright and her energy positive. She showed a high level of focus and empathy - her concern for every guest's satisfaction left a memorable mark on me. She was always nearby to fulfil guest questions and make conversation. The team, led by Marilyn, curated a most memorable experience in a fantastic setting leaving us with special memories. Marilyn was excellent."
