I am a very enthusiastic guide; I love my job and feel lucky and privileged to be doing it. I am passionate about Scotland, her people, history and culture. I genuinely want visitors to be wowed by a trip here and to go home with treasured memories. With this in mind, I always check what the clients’ special interests are and include these in my tour. I love feeling helpful and knowing that I have enhanced my clients experience. My tours tend to be story based with a little humour rather than all facts and figures. Apart from storytelling, my special interests are Gardens and plants, folklore, modern Scotland, stately homes and castles and any naughty gossip from within them! I also love shopping and fashion and have a design background.
I have been self-employed since leaving school, and for a time, ran three businesses’ simultaneously. (A fashion design business, interior and stained glass design business and a property company). I sourced fabrics and artefacts for these businesses from all over the world, which gave me a sensitive understanding of different cultures. I feel this background proves my capacity for hard work, good customer relations and resourcefulness.
I enjoy building relationships with destination management companies and very much see myself as part of a team. I have done itinerary planning, tour development and aided marketing. Some companies are successfully selling tours that I designed, which gives me great satisfaction.
As well as guiding all over Scotland, I regularly guide in the English Lake district, Northumbria (including Hadrian’s Wall) and Yorkshire. In Edinburgh (my home town) I offer a variety of Special interest, full or half day walking tours.
