Currently experiencing mobility issues and therefore using a walking stick. Happy to guide in Edinburgh and day trips from Edinburgh. But not ideal on walking tours at present. Lengthy and good experience which can also be used on hospitality desks, welcoming groups, helping with itineraries.
A qualified BLUE BADGE TOURIST GUIDE accredited by the Scottish Tourist Guides Association since 1999, Mary has guided visitors around the whole of Scotland. Based in Edinburgh, she led with enthusiasm, enjoyment, and considerable knowledge. In 2022 and 2023 Mary joined the iCentre team in Edinburgh as a VISITSCOTLAND SEASONAL VISITOR ADVISOR. Since 2001, Mary is occasionally contracted as a TRAINER AND FACILITATOR and is the former STGA COURSE DIRECTOR for the Blue Badge Scottish tourist guide qualification. Accredited by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) as a WFTGA LEAD INTERNATIONAL TRAINER since 2008 and as a FEG TRAINER for the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (FEG) since 2009, she trains tourist guides around the world. Elected to the Executive Board in January 2017, Mary is a former WFTGA VICE PRESIDENT.
BILINGUAL IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH Mary is part of the Scottish Diaspora, having grown up in Buenos Aires for 20 years, nurturing both Latin and Celtic roots. She can defend herself in basic French too. Graduating in Archaeology from Glasgow University (MA Honours) she practiced Scottish archaeology and archaeological illustration for several years.
As a TRAINER Mary has moderated and accredited courses, and she has delivered talks, lectures, and courses to guides in the UK, Ireland, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Brunei, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Macao, Moldova, Oman, Portugal, Russia, Serbia and Tanzania.
On 23 March 2019, Mary was placed on the short STGA ROLL OF HONOUR, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Scottish Association, in recognition of the exceptional role she played in the evolution of the STGA.
