I qualified as a Scottish Tourist Guide in 1983 at the age of 34 and it has been my full time career ever since. I have worked for a huge variety of operators and visitors. Nowadays I specialise in working with VIP groups and visitors to the more remote parts of Scotland as well as in the Central Areas. I am an expert on the Western and Northern Islands, including ship board commentaries and lectures. I have published Regional Information workbooks for Trainee guides for all areas of Scotland. I was Course Director for the Blue Badge Training in Scotland from 1989 -2012 and President of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations from 2007-2013. I have written articles for UNWTO and I have published a Handbook for Silk Road Heritage Guides with UNWTO and UNESCO. I was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to tourism in 2010
